Happy New Year to all! =)
Before the year 2008 ended, I was able to watch two movies included in the annual Metro Manila Film Festival or MMFF. Together with my family, we watched Iskul Bukol The Reunion top billed by the famous trio- Tito, Vic, and Joey. As usual, it was hilariously funny especially the scenes with Ryan Agoncillo who played a Cambodian mute.
I wanted to watch Tanging Ina N’yong Lahat as my sister said she was laughing all the time when she watched the said movie. However, I ended up watching Baler on which my boyfriend really liked to see. I’m not complaining though, ’cause the screening time for the Ai-Ai de las Alas starrer would start later than Baler and I was in a hurry at that time. It was good after all, it is a historical film and the actors and actresses are great. Though I’m still wondering why Anne Curtis bagged the Best Actress award.
Anyway, I’m yet to watch some entries. Still, Tanging Ina is on my list and perhaps, Desperadas 2 because of Ogie Alcasid.

Another Filipino makes a name! Mc Zani is the 2008 UK Beatbox Champion. He is awesome! I can’t believe it’s all just coming from his mouth, the sound produced by his mouth-together with his tounge, lips and throat seems like fake-but of course, it isn’t. That’s pure talent.

Actor Marky Cielo died this morning due to acute hemorrhagic pancreatic or “bangungot”. The Kapuso artist became popular after he became the Startruck Ultimate Survivor Batch 3. Reports has it that Marky Cielo allegedly died while sleeping inside their home in Antipolo and when his mother tried to wake him up, the young actor didn’t respond. He was rushed to the nearest hospital but declared dead on arrival. It wasn’t confirmed though if that reason is true as his family wants privacy as of the moment. Apparently, Cielo family is still in shock.
Marky Cielo is only 20 years old. He is a great loss not only to the entertainment industry but also for the youth who idolize him. He is a good example for the youth as he possess genuine “makabayan” , a proud Igorot, humble and kind. I see him as a nice person with full of talents. His family asks us for prayer and I certainly will.

On what would be an inevitable boxing match, on December 6, 2008 - Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao agreed to a fight on a catchweight of 147 lbs. that will be held at MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Some says that the Golden Boy is just coward in facing Margarito so he picked Pacman instead. Why not give the man a benefit of the doubt? Sure he lost his title to Floyd Mayweather II, but he was praised for being the first man to beat Mayweather on on any official scorecard.
On the other hand, Manny Pacquiao or Pacman is currently the WBC Lightweight Champion and the WBC Super Featherweight Champion. He is also the world champion at IBF Super Bantamweight and WBC Flyweight divisions. Furthermore, Pacman is the first Asian and Filipino boxer to win four world titles in different weight divisions. But on his fight with the Golden Boy, will this be the downfall of his career? Pacman regarded this match as the toughest test of his boxing career.

Round 4: Pacquiao is still moving fast but De la Hoya managed to land a solid right punch. 10-9 in favor of Pacquiao.

On November 27, 2008, Charice Pempengco sung live at Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. As usual, Charice is amazing as she sung Celine Dion’s Because You Love Me. She is regarded as “Internet Phenomenal Diva” from the Philippines. The said event is Charice numerous performance internationally.
She was first noticed in You Tube when someone posted a face-off video between her and Bianca Ryan, America’s Got Talent winner. She was then invited to perform to Star King, a talent show from South Korea on October 2007. But, it was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she was internationally acclaimed when she guested the show on December of 2007. On April this year, she guested on Paul O’Grady Show in London. After a month, she appeared in The Oprah Winfrey Show where she awed the audience and Oprah herself. Her outstanding performance paved way for her duet with none other than Celine Dion, in Madison Square Garden in New York City. She received standing ovation in all her performances.

Back in high school, I remember reading an excerpt of the book: The Anne Frank’s Diary. It is a story of a young girl’s life and his family inside a secret hideout to avoid being arrested by the Nazis during the German occupation to get rid of Jews in Germany.
It was only this time that I have read the book from cover to cover. I found the book from my Uncle’s collection. Anne Frank wrote on her diary about their lives inside the hideout (her father’s office building) for more than two years- on how they get food, living with other family, what they do everyday and how they manage to live away from an ordinary life. My Yearbook (www.myyearbook.com) is now one of the fastest growing social networks on the Internet. Would you believe that it was actually founded by two highschool students? Catherine and Dave Cook were 15 and 16 years old respectively when they first started My Yearbook.
Actually, I came across My Yearbook through a friend and when I checked it out, I was fascinated by the site’s features. In it, you can customize your page more interestingly than of your Friendster or Myspace account. You can post your favorite website for anyone to see, write anything about you, meet new friends and of course, keep the ones you have. It has features like Owned! wherein someone can actually own you; Secret Admirers wherein you can guess your secret admirers. You can customize your page by adding themes. Starring Claudine Barretto, Diether Ocampo, Angelica Panganiban, and Gabby Concepcion, Iisa Pa Lamang is one of the primetime teleseryes of ABS-CBN.
I rarely watch this series because I don’t feel like watching Claudine Barretto. Yet, I couldn’t help but notice this teleserye. The beginning of the story might have captivated the watchers but with its twist and turns, it loses the main plot of the story. The writers should know the flaws of the story. For one, police caught the suspect yet left the victim dying. Then, how could a president of a corporation like Catherine (Claudine) couldn’t afford to hire the best attorney in the country to defend her from the accusation that she killed Raphael’s (Gabby) mother? And she was put behind the bars not having a paraffin test to know if she is the real suspect?
The writers are just fooling the Filipino people, especially fans of the cast. Just a thought.

Marimar, My Name is Kim Sam Soon, My Girl, I Love Betty La Fea, and Lalola - these localized version are today’s hype among primetime television. It is so that many asianovela fanatics are wondering, why not the two giant networks (ABS-CBN 2 and GMA-7) consider a Meteor Garden Filipino Version?
I remember, I was so crazy over Meteor Garden then, that I was so happy when my brother went to Hongkong and bought me the original soundtrack of Meteor Garden. Me and my sister even posted F4 pictures in our room! LOL! Anyway, Meteor Garden was a phenomenal hit in the Philippines when it started to air on April of 2001. I believe this Taiwanese drama started the asianovela craze that is very apparent until now. I think ABS-CBN should consider a remake of it since they were the first to broadcast Meteor Garden.
Alex Gonzaga (Toni Gonzaga’s sister) recently expresses her wish to portray a role like Shan Cai (Barbie Xu) in Meteor Garden. But I think, Kim Chiu suits the role of Shan Cai and of course, Gerald as Dao Ming Si (Jerry Yan). Considering the fact also that Kim-Gerald tandem has been tested and earned a lot of fans.
If ABS-CBN will make a Filipino version of Meteor Garden, I hope they will consider the following cast:

Three Dads with One Mommy is the newest primetime Koreanovela of ABS-CBN aired every Monday to Thursday at 10:15 p.m. I found the story very cute and interesting that I don’t want to miss a single episode of it.
It stars one of the beautiful actresses of Korea - Eugene Kim. She previously starred in Save the Last Dance and Wonderful Life. In Three Dads with One Mommy, she plays Lizette, a young mother struggling to raise her daughter after her husband, Justin, died of an accident. Yun Sang Hyun of Marrying a Millionaire plays Lizette’s husband, who asked his friends Ariel, Jayden and Jake to donate their sperm cells since he is unable to get his wife pregnant.
Shin Sung Rock as Ariel, is a police man who has a nasty smelling feet.
Jae Hee (of Sassy Girl), plays Jayden, a cartoonist and a little playboy.
Jo Hyun Jae (of Only You) plays Jake, a stingy professional.

Due to melamine scare that made people world wide prefer not to buy Chinese-made products, an e-mail informing consumers how to identify products from China by their barcodes are being forwarded recently.
In this e-mail, it informs readers to differentiate each country’s products by the first 3 digits of the bar code. It states: products made in China starts with barcode: 690/691/692.
However, Chan Chee Kong, a senior technician says it is not true. He cited an example: his Chinese cooking wines bore the Singapore-assigned prefix 888, despite being labeled as a product of China.

Department of Health has released to the public the three Chinese milk products that were tested positive with melamine content. These products are: JollyCow Slender High Calcium Low Fat milk (1 Liter), Yili, and Mengyu.
The said products will remain banned on the market until they will become negative with melamine on the next test that will be conducted by the Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD).
For milk-lover like me, it is good to know that other products that were also tested were negative from melamine. Some of them are widely known and use by many. Here are the list:

Will it be an antediluvian period?
I received a text message from a friend stating that:
“On October 17, 2008, the sun will rise continously for 36 hours (1.5 days). During this time, the US Countries will be dark for 1.5 days. It will convert 3 days into 2 big days. It will happen once in 2400 years. We’re very lucky to see this. This is a global phenomenon.”
The message was said to be courtesy of CNN/BBC news. Actually, I haven’t verified if this is true. I will just mark the calendar and see if this will really happen.

Family murders are very alarming now-adays. On October 10, 2008, Kent Whitaker will appear on The Oprah Winfrey Show to talk about the aftermath of the murder. Kent Whitaker is the only survivor on the shootings that happened last December of 2003 in Sugar Land, Texas. His wife, Patricia and son - Kevin died at the incident. The suspect: his other son - my namesake: Bart. What trigger Bart to hire a gunman and kill his family? Money.
And then, just recently - last Monday, 6 bodies were found dead in Los Angeles. The father, Karthik Rajaram, was responsible for the murder of his wife, three children, his mother-in-law and himself. Rajaram left a suicide note indicating the reason of this gruesome murder-suicide: Financial difficulties.

I have watched Get Smart starring Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway, and I was really laughing my heart out from beginning til end. From being a lovely and pretty princess in Princess Diaries movies, Anne Hathaway looks very sexy and seductive with her recent films. Just recently, Hathaway has been in the spotlight for the nude pictures courtesy of her ex-boyfriend, Italian businessman Raffaello Follieri.
Follieri was also allegedly hired a professional photographer to take a picture of Hathaway in black Fishnet stockings, a belt of league and Bustier fully exposed its top. Follieri was arrested last June and charged of fraud while there were also rumors that he has taken with him her journals along with thousands of dollars in jewelry that Follieri had given her.

Remember that famous answer to the question given by a judge on The Binibining Pilipinas 2008 held last March of this year? Yes, that answer made Janina San Miguel an instant celebrity. San Miguel won the title of Binibining Pilipinas World 2008. And that led to a debate whether San Miguel deserves the title since she is not fluent with the English grammar.
