December 29, 2007… St. Peter Batch 2000 of University of the Assumption, San Fernando Pampanga held its annual charity program at Duyan ni Maria (Mary’s Cradle) Orphanage in Hensonville, Angeles City. For three consecutive years, our class visited and distributed goods to Bahay Pag-ibig foundation at Holy Angel Village, City of San Fernando Pampanga. We decided it’s time to give joy to kids so our beneficiary for the year 2007 was the Duyan ni Maria Orphanage.

Our program started at 3 in the afternoon. The kids were gathered and seated properly first before we began our little program. We conducted games and gave away prizes. Midway, we distributed foods packed in Styrofoam containing spaghetti and sandwiches, and juices. Afterwards we proceeded with the games. We also gave them school supplies for highschool and college students, diapers for the infants and toys for the kids. We also donated used clothes. Hopefully, next year we would be able to collect more money for our next charity program.

The foundation is headed by Sis. Ma. Alessandria Casas. With financial assistance of Sis. Casas’ friend, the foundation houses and takes care of 54 kids, 11 infants and 11 houseparents. Occasionally, they receive donations from different organizations. Duyan ni Maria started as a shelter for abused women and their children. Later on, they also supported abandoned children. Now, the foundation also sends the kids to school. They have 7 pre-school kids, 18 on elementary level, 12 highschool and 8 in college level.
