actually the song simply means that it is a metaphor comparing themselves to soldiers, because they were LIKE soldiers who fought against something, and that something is ILLNESS , her wife was dying and there is nothing he could do for he is just a man and not God , the one he said in a line, i could only give love….he said fall on me and we’ both fall down means that it is because her wife is dying he would also feel the same way too , like when you lose someone you love even if literally you don’t die but you feel that your world is also falling apart…he is not gay…we was emotional because we are talking about loved ones here, we even cry over someone dies we only see on tv how much more if they were actually uor loved ones…. good day to all!
