According to Cosmopolitan, 73% of Pinays believe in soulmate.
What does soulmate actually means? When I was younger, I used to believe in such and even mistaken infatuation with soulmate. Eventually, I had convinced myself that there is no such thing. What I do believe is first love and true love.
There are theories on how soulmate begun, and one famous example is the Symposium of Plato. According to it, during Zeus’ time, humans were originally combined with four sets of arms and legs , and with one head only. Because of fear that they may dominate his power, Zeus split them all in half, thus condemning them of searching for their other half for the rest of their lives. I find this ridiculous of course.
According to Wikipedia, soulmate means:
Soulmate (or soul mate) is a term sometimes used to designate someone with whom one has a feeling of deep and natural affinity, friendship, love, intimacy, sexuality, spirituality and/or compatibility. A related concept is that of the twin flame or twin soul – which is thought to be the ultimate soulmate, the one and only other half of one’s soul, for which all souls are driven to find and join. However, not everyone who uses these terms intends them to carry such mystical connotations.
Pinays are, of course, more inclined to this belief than Pinoys. Basically, because women are more sensitive and more “clingy”. But still, I’m not yet one of those 73% of pinays who believe in soulmate. I prefer true love as a term more appropriate to describe one’s deep feelings of love, intimacy and compatibility towards the opposite sex.
