According to Wikipedia: Urduja (ca. 1350 C.E – 1400 C.E.), is a legendary warrior-princess who is recognized as a heroine in Pangasinan. The name Urduja appears to be Sanskrit in origin, and a variation of the Sanskrit name “Urja,” meaning “Breath.”

Urduja is the fist animated film produced and made by Filipinos for local viewers. It is a tale of a love triangle involving a warrior princess, a Chinese pirate and an ambitious tribal captain.

Urduja’s voice is by Regine Velasquez, Limhang (the Chinese pirate), is voiced by Cesar Montano while Jay Manalo voices the antagonist, Simakwel.

Also in the cast are Eddie Garcia who gives voice to Lakanpati, Urduja’s father. The mouse Kukut is voiced by Michael V. Allan K voiced the tarsier named, what else, Tarsir. The two provide the comic relief in the story. Daisuke, voiced by Epi Quizon, is Limhang’s sidekick while Urduja’s bestfriend Mayumi is voiced by Ruby Rodriguez, and Johnny Delgado lends his voice to Wang, the leader of the Chinese imperial army whom Limhang escapes from. One thing remarkable about their characters is that they have resemblance on their actors.Urduja took 15 years to actually finish the project. It is a dream come true for Mr. Antonio Tuviera or Mr. T, the man behind APT Productions. The film cost huge that Mr. Tuviera is aware that he cannot have his money back but he is mighty proud of the persons behind it (there are at least 400 artists on this project) and the film itself.

This is something to watch for. Let’s see if this first ever animated film by our own countrymen will equate, if not surpass, Hollywood’s digital animated film. After all, some of Disney’s artists are Filipinos.
