World Boxing Council (WBC) super featherweight champion Manny Pacquiao and WBC lightweight champion David Diaz will fight over Diaz’ title on June 28, 2008 aired via HBO ( to be aired on GMA-7 in Philippines on June 29). Promoter Bob Arum called this fight as the “Lethal Combination”.
Pacquiao, tagged as “The Mexicutioner” has beaten Barrera, Marquez, Larios, Solis and Morales. He is aiming to to get five world titles in five different weight classes. For the first time, he will be fighting at 135 pounds. Will the added weight deter Pacquiao’s performance? But Freddie Roach,Pacquiao’s trainer, is more concerned on the Pacman’s mentality. Coming from previous victory over Marquez, Manny Pacquiao might underestimate Diaz’ power.
David Diaz said he would never give his title to Pacquiao. This would be his second defense of his title. He has defended it against Erik Morales. Pacquiao should not underestimate this1996 U.S. Olympic member and with 12 years of experience as an athlete, Diaz is a tough boxer, and as Roach remarked: “He is physically stronger on the inside at 135 pounds.”
The Pacquiao Vs. Diaz fight will be aired live by HBO Pay-per-view, 9 pm ET/6 pm PT.
