All about www.Myyearbook.com

October 24th, 2008

My Yearbook (www.myyearbook.com) is now one of the fastest growing social networks on the Internet. Would you believe that it was actually founded by two highschool students?  Catherine and Dave Cook were 15 and 16 years old respectively when they first started My Yearbook.

Actually, I came across My Yearbook through a friend and when I checked it out, I was fascinated by the site’s features. In it, you can customize your page more interestingly than of your Friendster or Myspace account. You can post your favorite website for anyone to see, write anything about you, meet new friends and of course, keep the ones you have. It has features like Owned! wherein someone can actually own you; Secret Admirers wherein you can guess your secret admirers. You can customize your page by adding themes. It also has Battles, Quiz, MyMag, Match, Tv and Video. And best of all, you can donate to charities (Causes) by using your Lunch Money to buy real things. How does it work?

Here’s an excerpt from the My Yearbook’s founders on how the Causes work. You can log in at My Yearbook to know more about it:

Causes is one of the top sources of charitable giving from young people on this planet. While giving a few grains of rice may seem small — when multiplied by the millions of myYearbook users who login every month — we are able to have a real impact on the world stage and actually do something concrete to Save the Planet.

At the end of every month, myYearbook writes a large check to the Causes described below based on the giving activity of our members. When you purchase an item through Causes, we record the purchase and translate your lunch money into real US dollars. For example, we multiply the number of grains of rice bought by our members that month to support the Hunger cause and multiply that amount by the cost of a grain of rice in US dollars and determine the total donation to be made to the listed cause based on the giving activity of our members.

We have committed tens of thousands of dollars per month to supporting the Causes of our members and hope, as our membership grows, to make this number even bigger.

Thanks to the generosity of our members, we are able to supply the following organizations with the real cash donations they need to support their mission and help make a difference in this world — to help fight poverty, global warming, disease, and animal abuse.

The reason this can work is because myYearbook has sponsors. These sponsors want to reach teens, and young people (hopefully all people) want to help charities save the planet. The genius of Causes is in connecting these three very different groups — Teens, Sponsors, and Charities — and bringing them together to make a difference in the world. We currently cap our total monthly donation from myYearbook at $20,000 US dollars per month — which makes us month 1 one of the largest sources of donations from young people — and we intend to increase that limit as we get more sponsors to support this endeavor.

My Yearbook is not only the youngest social networking in the world wide web, it is also for a good CAUSE! :) Being one of the newest member, I still have to customize my page. You can check it at: http://www.myyearbook.com/bartmarquez. Feel free to add me as your friend! See yah! =)
