The Diary of Anne Frank

November 19th, 2008

Back in high school, I remember reading an excerpt of the book: The Anne Frank’s Diary. It is a story of a young girl’s life and his family inside a secret hideout to avoid being arrested by the Nazis during the German occupation to get rid of Jews in Germany.

It was only this time that I have read the book from cover to cover. I found the book from my Uncle’s collection. Anne Frank wrote on her diary about their lives inside the hideout (her father’s office building) for more than two years- on how they get food, living with other family, what they do everyday and how they manage to live away from an ordinary life. But what caught my interest is her deeply longing for love and understanding from her family. Like any other girls of her age, she was misunderstood. As a child, she was more attached to her father but grew apart from him as she begun to feel the differences of each member of her family. But still, I admire her for being strong and passionate about her dreams - of going back to school and becoming a journalist. A dream that was cut short after their group were tip-off to the German Security Police by an employee of the warehouse.

The Diary of Anne Frank is the most remarkable story during the war. I also admire her writing style, she really has what it takes to be a journalist as she had dreamed of.  Her diary is moving and most read widely not only because of the well-documented happening during the Holocaust, but for me, it is because one can relate to the emotions and struggles that Anne Frank went through.
