Arnel Pineda, the Filipino lead vocalist of Journey was chosen by Manny Pacquiao to sing “Lupang Hinirang”, Philippines’ national anthem on the Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey fight.
Arnel Pineda became the lead vocalist of the rock band Journey when Neal Schon, lead vocalist of the band, saw Pineda’s performances in You Tube. Pineda’s voice quite resembled that of the original vocalist of the band, Steve Perry.
The Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey bout is set at the Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas on March 13, (March 14 in the Philippines).
Arnel Pineda’s voice was extreme. He was amazing until the last part of the song where he gave extra high notes which made the Philippines’ CHI filing a case against him.
Well because that was the law that he should sing the national anthem according to its rhythm. Well anyway, for me that was a good performance of Arnel Pineda that makes our country more proud.
