Sure he has a great voice and good looks, but Michael Johns was sent home among the top 8 finalists. Joining him in the bottom three were Syesha Mercado and Carly Smithson. It comes as a shocking elimination because I thought it could be Syesha or Carly.

Here’s the lyrics of Seasons of Love, sung by American Idol Season 7 Top 8 Finalists.

COMPANY
525,600 minutes, 525,000 moments so dear. 525,600 minutes – how do you measure,
measure a year? In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee. In
inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife. In 525,600 minutes – how do you
measure a year in the life?
How about love? How about love? How about love? Measure in love. Seasons of
love.

It’s good to see Ramiele Malubay performs once again, though not in American Idol Season 7, but on Ellen DeGeneres’ show! :) I appreciate Ellen’s enthusiasm with Filipino talents. She requested Charisse Pempengco to sing live on her show and praised Arnel Pineda (a Filipino singer who is now the lead vocalist of international band, Journey).

Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao won the most anticipated rematch in the history of boxing, in a split decision. Both Judges scored 115-112 and 114-113 for Pacquiao while another judge had it 115-112 in favor of Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez.

But controversies regarding the fight is still going around and outside the boxing ring. Obviously, Marquez’ camp are not happy with the result as they expected that Marquez won the fight, that they requested for another rematch but Pacquiao’s promoter claimed that it was over and clearly, Pacquiao won the rematch. They would rather have a fight with David Diaz.

Who is David Diaz?

I’m sure you have heard or saw this t.v. clip from Desperate Housewives. It has been on the local news for the past few weeks and ‘til now, it hasn’t come to a halt. Teri Hatcher is now very famous for the Filipinos for its line on the series mocking Philippine medical school, well some, not in general. It has earned a lot of protest and negative reactions from the Filipinos, especially in U.S., to the point that some made a petition to ban the said show.

I’m not a fan of Desperate Housewives or its actors and actresses. In fact, I haven’t watched a single episode of it, and I only know Teri Hatcher when she played Lois Lane on Superman series aired on Channel 5 then. So, I think this whole petition brouhaha on banning the show is way out of league; other Filipinos may have overreacted on this issue. Sure, I was a bit offended when I saw the clip, apparently because I’m a Filipino. But I don’t think it’s a racial discrimination. On that certain episode, Hatcher was just appertaining to the doctor’s diploma making sure that he didn’t get it from ‘some med school in the Philippines.’ The writer might have an unfortunate encounter with a Filipino doctor but he clearly did not generalize all Filipino doctors as ‘incompetent or ineffective’. I, myself, have own personal account regarding some medical malpractices. For one, my father’s life could have been saved if he was given proper first aid in one of hospitals somewhere in Pampanga. This same hospital is where my neighbor was rushed from after he had a motorcycle accident. The doctor said he was fine thus sent him home. The next day, he died of internal hemorrhage. But then, I still believe that there are still great Filipino doctors, especially those who are now working abroad.

Or the writer might be referring to Recto, a very popular place in Manila where one can get fake diploma instantly. Or he might have heard the nursing licensure examination leakage. Whatever his reasons may be, the thing is, abc (the network which airs Desperate Housewives), already made a public apology regarding the malicious statement. I think it is enough already to amend whatever damage/s it caused on the image of Filipino doctors or medical schools in our country. I understand if we are being too sensitive with issues like these because it may appear as an insult for us. Furthermore, Filipinos have great contributions globally even though we are tagged as Third World. To name some of Filipino inventions were the fluorescent light and karaoke (but only to be sold to other countries because our government failed to support the said inventions). We have talented artists such as Nicole of Pussycat Dolls, Allan Pineda a.k.a. APL de Ap of Blackeyed Peas, Rob Schneider to name a few. We have Filipino designers who had invaded the U.S. market such as the Cebuano who made the sofa frame on Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s house or the now famous Filipino bag designer who has a store in New York. And, we have a boxing champion in the name of Manny Pacquiao.

But then, the petition to ban Desperate Housewives is not the key to totally uplift Filipinos’ pride. Let’s face it, we also have our flaws. There’s the growing poverty, crimes, and graft and corruption. Why not focus on those instead?

Real. That song describes what I feel today, as I turned a year older. I quench for the real meaning of love and – life.

Last year, I celebrated my 22nd birthday at the staff house. Though I felt empty because there were some missing pieces in my life, the celebration was somehow fun and memorable, thanks to my friends and officemates. =)

This time, I’ll celebrate it again at the staff house…but with different outlook ’bout my life and my feelings. I realized, I have so many things to be thankful than whining ’bout the things/persons I couldn’t have. I thank God for blessing my family with good health and (somehow) good life though we’re not what you call a ‘perfect family’. I thank God for taking away the pain I felt when I was sick, now I’m amazingly healthy. I thank Him for my friends which reminds me how lucky I am to have them. I thank Him for always forgiving me and giving me chances to make amends for my wrong thoughts, deeds and words. Above all, I thank God for letting me into this world full of mystery, pain, joy, evil and good deeds – for I may never experience to be a human.

As I take a look at my life for the past year since I reached 22, I know I made some wrong decisions and regret them afterwards. But as they say, you may never learn without those mistakes. Whenever I see lovers hold hands, hug, kiss, watch movies, walk together, laugh and care for each other, I feel envy but still feel good coz love still works, if not for me.. at least for others. I lose someone who loves me because I decided to be with someone I love…a love that I thought could be but never meant to be.. thus, I lose them both. But I realized, I had made myself believe that love is forever, that love never dies. Only to be disillusioned in the end, when I found my hands empty and my heart longing. But I’ve learned that love is only a gift given to us. we should not hold it in our hands, for we may never find the strength to let it go when it decides to leave. I know it’s not easy, I’ve been mending my heart for so long, but now, I really can say that I have MOVE ON. I believe that someday, someone will walk into my life again. Opportunities only knocks at your door once they say, yeah, just like a lightning I said. But I only realized that when I started complaining bout my job..regreting the chance to grow. I know I can never turn back the hands of time but those experiences taught me so much careerwise. Those regrets made me wise and strong. And I know, I will encounter many obstacles and experiences as I journey into my life. Just as long as my faith in God is my instrument, I know I can make it. =)

Thanks to my friends who greeted me since the hands of clock ticked at 11:59 a.m. God bless everyone! =)

This is my fave performance from Magni, aside from Creep. He’s really good, i hope he would be the lead vocalist of Supernova. He sings very well and has an impact on stage. Well, I only had few info about him. All I know is that he came from Iceland, that’s why he is called Iceman. He is also called penguin, hmm, is it because of his country as well? And that he dearly loves his wife and son (how sweet of him!). Hope to see more of his performance on Rockstar Supernova!
